The weird thing is that when I restart my computer with the CD in it, it will then recognize that there is data on the CD. I also am having having problems with this player in my compaq evo nv.

This problem occurred after dismantling the device for a routine maintenance. Do you have another solution for gcc-4240 problem. Is the drive recognised correctly in device manager? RPC1 region-free firmware handles the regioning of the drive.

It would be great, if you reported the exact type of the drive something like GWA-xxxx. I can burn any cd at 24x, no longer have the annoying 10x problem. For me the drive runs quieter now with a dvd.

Some bod in wales sold me this dvd rewriter gcd-4240n was in a removable module for Dell Latitude C and had only once written a CD-R, I cant get it to be visible to Nero 6 and it will simply not recognize dvds, have tried various brands of dvds and cdrs, even some cdrs are not recognisable to the drive.

I applied firmware upgrade with eauto from dangerous brothers and resetted dvd region change but the problem is still same.

Use the eauto, the same one that would be used for Dell. It just spins down and acts as if it is going to eject but rww spins back up again and reads the disc.

Start with uninstalling the ide drivers in devicemanager, then restart. Try this and report back! Doesnt matter what speed it was burned at previously, just re-burn at a lower speed that of which you will know of, since you will be making this new copy. Start your own thread instead - you will also get more people paying attention to your problem that way. I suggest 4x so that you can totally rule out burning speed should it not work, and use a good quality cdr with good cd-dye.

Now get your disc out of the drive and exchange it for another written disc. Maybe that drive works only in the enclosure it was built-in previously. Firmware is only available from the computer manufacturer who used that drive for system building. How can I resolve this problem. Also it is region free now. There are wr of things you can do to experiment, try the first two I suggested and see what happens, report back, maybe others have the same problem. Hcc-4240n not, you really have a strange hardware problem going on. How I can fix it??? The drive is not a DVD Writer. How do you check if it is a DVD burner?
